Swindon Town can still find meaning by looking to the future
Swindon Town may not have immediate footballing jeopardy on these final eight games, but the intrigue of next season makes them very important.
Like an England qualifier, the importance of Swindon’s run-in is fairly meagre. The results do matter, but ultimately, they will not change the final outcome. Despite the name of this column being ‘Looking Back-lam’, what comes next is more important than what has already happened; it is time to discuss the future. Also, ‘Looking Forward-lam’ doesn’t work, so here we are.
With eight games remaining, Swindon would have to beat two of the current top three and win six more games to stand a chance of doing anything. Either that or the terrifying option of the seven-place and 17-point buffer between Town and the relegation zone evaporating.
