How Swindon Town can survive if Harry Smith has bad injury

Swindon Town could be looking at a spell without their talismanic striker Harry Smith in the side following his injury against Barnet.

Smith had to come off shortly after the start of the second half following a collision with Bees goalkeeper Cieran Slicker, which saw him helped off the pitch by two trainers.

Ian Holloway said after the match that he presently has “no idea” about the severity of his injury, but The Adver is aware of a fear that it could be an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) problem, for which he is being scanned on August 21.

There are various degrees to the severity of an ACL injury, a grade one sprain would take between two and four weeks, a partial tear would likely see him out for between six and eight weeks and would not require surgery, and a complete tear would take between six months and a year, depending on what other structures are involved.
