How Swindon Town became attacking force to scare League Two

“I thought in the second half we were very, very good,” raved Ian Holloway about Swindon Town’s display against Port Vale last weekend.

“We got the placement of our team much better,” explained Holloway for why they improved. “With our front players, we were too wide, we needed to go higher and play slightly narrower and then leave the full-backs to be the width against a very good back five.”

What has been noteworthy over the last few matches has been how Swindon have been able to assert themselves offensively on the opposition. Having initially fixed the defensive structure, Holloway has now seen an attacking overhaul which has made the team very dangerous.

In only one game this calendar year have Town registered less than one xG, compared to the start of the season when in six of their first ten league matches they could not reach that fairly low mark. That has gone even further as they registered more than two in back-to-back games against Tranmere Rovers and Carlisle........
