Red ribbons creating the St George’s Cross on the Wiltshire White Horse got a lot of people talking.

The surprising and short-lived addition to the historic site split opinion as Wiltshire residents discussed whether it was a patriotic bit of fun or a worrying example of nationalist vandalism.

Westbury Town Council will send a team there to assess any damage.

Here’s what you had to say on the matter.

Lynn Northmore said: “That’s naughty, it’s the Sycamore Gap tree all over again. I sympathise but not on our monuments.”

Jane Mulraney said: “Doesn't matter. I think it's perfect on our White Horse monument.”

Wendy Lansdowne said: “Pure vandalism.”

Robin Walford said: “It's red fabric, not painted.

“Get over yourselves shouting vandalism.”

Alex Sutherland replied: “Its tens of kilos of manmade material dumped on a hillside, which will be left to the general taxpayer to clear up. So yeah vandalism.”

Ben Anderson replied: “Yes but it was pegged actually onto the chalk potentially damaging it. I'm all for the flags, roundabouts and crossings but leave out areas of historical importance.........
