The Octagon cafe in Swindon town centre to be demolished

News of the town centre bus station café’s impending demolition has been met with dismay.

Workers were recently spotted inside The Octagon, which closed last year ahead of plans to demolish the building.

The entrance is barricaded but workers in high-vis jackets have been seen coming and going and having their lunch in the former site of the café, which had been trading for 40 years.

Owners Heidi and Jon Flitcroft, who managed the café since 2018, were told by Swindon Borough Council that they would need to cease trading from the building at 4 New Bridge Close because they planned to knock the building down as part of the Fleming Way improvement scheme.

The couple, who were also faced with around £80,000 of debt, closed the café in September 2024 and it has remained empty since.

Here’s what Adver readers had to say on the subject.
