News of a town centre café’s impending demolition saddened many Swindonians who shared fond memories of their time there.

The Octagon café in Newbridge Square closed last September and will soon be torn down along with the old bus station next door.

Here’s what you had to say on the matter.

Tracy Fieldsend said: “That was a haven if you arrived at the bus station too early without having to walk too far for a cuppa and a decent toilet.”

Kirt Wakefield said: “It will be sad to see it go, the first time I ever went there was 6.30am on Monday 20th June 1994. I still remember eating beans on toast and having a cup of tea. Funny how you remember specific things.”

Dan Hart said: “Memories of my late Nan taking me there on a Saturday when my parents had to work and she would meet us at the bus station. We’d go in there for tea and toast - nostalgic!

“Understand things change and need to modernise but a bit of investment to that building and could have remained a great little cafe.”

Linda Mundy said: “My father was lead steel fixer when they built the bus station. He’s gone, and now the bus station will be too.”
