A roundup of court cases involving dog owners being sentenced for having an out-of-control pet or illegally owning a dangerous dog sparked a lot of debate among Adver readers.

Various defendants appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court and in some cases, these hearings resulted in their XL Bully pets being destroyed.

This caused a lot of discussion about who was to blame in these circumstances – the dogs or the owners – and whether the punishment for the pets was too severe.

Barry Cox said: “Anyone with an XL bully please please for the sake of the dog’s life get them used to and happy wearing a muzzle.

“They are a lovely breed (the ones I’ve met have been absolute sweethearts). but in the wrong hands because of their size and strength they can get out of hand (like any other dog).”
