Should noisy fireworks be banned or restricted in Swindon?
A petition with more than 11,000 signatures calling for the maximum noise level for consumer fireworks to be lowered prompted a lot of debate.
As Bonfire Night saw colourful displays across the town, locals took to social media to share strong and often opposing views about whether stricter rules are needed for consumer fireworks.
The focus of concern was not just about noise, but also safety, animal welfare and public enjoyment.
Some residents called for a complete ban, saying people lacked control.
Suzanne Allen, said: "Ban them altogether, even controlled ones.
"They were all illegal in my close and still going off after 10.30pm.
"I put that down to the male adults getting a high over who's got the loudest fireworks, while having not an ounce of respect for those around them.
"I say ban all fireworks. I felt sad for all those with scared animals."
Others echoed concerns about animal welfare and the impact on vulnerable people.
Anne Sandford said: "All fireworks should be banned, no exception!
"No display in the world is worth the fear, pain and suffering our pets, wildlife, people with brain injuries, Autism, PTSD etc endure as a result of fireworks.........
