Readers voice their concerns on GP appointment woes

Adver readers shared their views on GP services after the government made more appointments available to help cope with demand.

Some residents said they have been struggling to book appointments with their GP due to the high volume of people calling in.

The government have called it the “8am scramble” as people attempt to get a same-day appointment, but all of them are already booked up.

Here’s what you had to say on the matter.

Jeremy Whitlock said: “If you need to see a GP urgently then go at 8am in person to make an appointment or ask a relative or friend on your behalf if you can't as you’re always likely to get an appointment then.”

Lynne Langley said: “Merchiston in Stratton, stand outside from 7.15am to hopefully get an appointment, no hope by phone usually only four appointments available and to phone for a virtual appointment is the same.

"Stayed up till 12 at night and still didn’t get one, God help us.

“But they keep building houses, and the hospital is at capacity most days. It's sad to see.”
