Reactions to Fleming Way progress in Swindon town centre
The latest update on Fleming Way’s regeneration has sparked another interesting discussion on the state of the town centre in Swindon with some slamming the work as "a mess".
Adver readers raised familiar concerns about whether the £33 million scheme was a waste of money, though this time there were also several others who supported the project.
Reader and objector Sarah Best said: “What a waste of money.
“There was absolutely nothing wrong with what was there before. We have hardly any shops left in town centre so what an absolute flip that was.
"It's an absolute mess. It's the older people that have really suffered as well.”
Neil Hedges replied: “You’re right, no shops in Swindon. Perhaps people will come flooding to Swindon to use one of the many coffee shops gyms or vape shops. It is a joke.
“It’s like closing the Lloyds branch in Old Town. The older generation find it hard to go to town to Lloyds. It was so handy with the parking on site town, is a dump, it's not a safe place to go especially for an OAP.”
