News of a new public space protection order being put in place around the town centre sparked a lot of discussion.

Signs installed on Monday warn shoppers that anyone seen riding an e-bike/e-scooters, urinating or defecating in public, riding a bike unsafely or causing "alcohol-related nuisance behaviour" in Swindon Town Centre can be prosecuted.

This will last until 2028 and is in place for the entire town centre shopping district, as well as Swindon Railway Station, Swindon Bus Station and Old Town.

Those caught ignoring the new signs could be fined up to £1,000 and will land themselves with a criminal record.

Lisa Kimber said: “Can we add pushy energy salespersons and that preacher and his cronies!”

Emma Godbold said: “About eight people drinking on benches near the library today, with empty strong strength larger cans being chucked on the floor. Not a policeman in sight. Surprise surprise.”
