Mixed views as England flags appear on Swindon's roads
The council’s response to flags being painted around Swindon sparked a lot of discussion.
The borough’s Cabinet members for Highways suggested that, for safety reasons, people should fly their flags at home rather than add the cross of St George to road markings.
Cllr Chris Watts said: “I would encourage residents of all nationalities in Swindon to be confident of flying their flags with pride, but to do so only on their own private property.
“As a town, and a council, we are also incredibly proud to be British, which is why we fly our national flags all year round at the Civic Offices.”
