HGV ban on Swindon road sparks fierce debate
News of heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes being banned from Kingshill Road in Swindon next month caused a lot of discussion online.
The move, aimed at tackling air pollution, has sparked heated debate online, with many residents and drivers questioning whether it will make any real difference.
Some say it will simply push the problem elsewhere.
Philip Curtis commented on Facebook: "Please remember that any lorry as a right to travel the roads as the a road licence plus a operator licence more than a car."
Others wondered how the ban would be enforced around the clock.
Dean Perrett wrote: "People still use it who going to monitor 24 hours then?"
Several residents predicted that the HGVs will simply be diverted onto other busy routes, increasing congestion and pollution there instead.
George Gee said: "Just more emissions on the other hills instead then."
Nigel Brewer agreed, adding: "Victoria road and Drove road emissions will rise."
