Freedom Flotilla: "Kidnapped" Swindon activist divides opinion
News of an activist from Swindon being allegedly ‘kidnapped’ while trying to take aid to Gaza caused a lot of discussion.
Mohamed Mokuzzal Ali, a Birmingham-born activist living in Swindon, boarded the Abd Elkarim Eid boat earlier this year as part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which Greta Thunberg famously joined before being removed from her boat and deported from Israel.
Israel has blocked several international aid flotillas in recent months from reaching Gaza, where the United Nations says famine has set in.
Swindon Councillor Repi Begum, who worked closely with residents to help Ali fund his place on the mission, asked residents to share the video and demand that he and his crewmates be released.
Dean Draper said: “Fair play to him.”
Stacy Pearce said: “Some of us aren’t demanding his release.
Tamara Tucker said: “Such a brave thing for Ali to do, it’s a shame that their mission was not successful. I hope that he returns home safely.”
Ron Lewis replied: What was brave about it when most think it was pointless and pathetic? He can stay there for all I care.”
