Swindon has one of the highest crime rates in Wiltshire, sparking concern among residents.

In 2025, Swindon recorded an overall crime rate of 59 crimes per 1,000 people, which is 21 per cent higher than the Wiltshire rate of 49 per 1,000.

While Wiltshire maintains one of the lowest overall crime levels in England, Swindon’s figures have raised questions and discussions among the community.

Despite these statistics, Swindon is ranked among the top 10 safest cities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

It stands as the 1,647th most dangerous location out of all towns, cities, and villages.

This paradox has led to mixed feelings among residents about their safety.

The most prevalent crimes in Swindon are violence and sexual offences.

In 2025, there were 6,201 such offences, resulting in a crime rate of 28, which is an 11 per cent increase from 2024's figure of 5,607 offences.

This rise in crime has concerned many locals.
