Debate rages over whether Green Party are the ones to back
The Green Party becoming the third largest group in Swindon Borough Council’s chamber after three councillors left the Labour Party has sparked a lot of discussion.
Councillors Tom Butcher and Repi Begum will now sit alongside Councillor Ian Edwards as Green Party representatives until May 2026.
Green Party leader Zack Polanski has welcomed the trio, suggesting that political realignments are taking place across the country.
Locally, the move has left some voters feeling energised and others more sceptical about the state of party politics.
Some residents, like Mikaela Johnson, celebrated the move.
She commented: "Yay green party all the way."
Others, such as Matt Wichall, echoed her sentiment, writing: "Absolutely great party, with great leadership!
"Fingers crossed for their continued growth."
Martin Hindley simply said: "Go Green."
However, not everyone was enthusiastic.
Steve Hedges called for support for Reform, writing: "Come on reform."
He was challenged by Charlie Hicks, who questioned the party’s policies: "So you don't want an NHS?........
