Debate rages over potential of more 20mph roads in Swindon

Plans are under consideration to lower the speed limit on over a dozen Wiltshire roads to 20mph.

Wiltshire Council plans to implement 20mph speed limits on several routes around the village of Aldbourne, near Swindon and Marlborough.

An assessment has found that multiple roads in and around the village qualify for a speed limit reduction following safety issues raised by the parish council.

We asked Adver readers whether they would like to see similar restrictions on other roads in the county?

Thomas Griffiths said: “No.

“With most roads in Swindon, the speed limit is fine.

“Quite often when I'm driving to work, I come across people doing 10 to 15 miles an hour under the speed limit (when there is no reason to do so), causing congestion and frustration.

“Thamesdown Drive is a good example. The other day, there were two cars side by side, doing approximately 25 miles an hour.

“One finally sped up, and eventually moved over, before slowing right down again.
