A big thank you to everyone across Torfaen who took part in events to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

Events took place up and down Torfaen, including our Civic Service in St Gabriel’s Church, Flag Raising Ceremonies at the Army Reserve Centre at the Civic Centre, a service in Blaenavon in the evening and community events including at Pontnewydd Park.

It was especially nice to see veterans and young people from our schools involved in the civic service, and to see those community events in churches, halls and parks. It’s so important that we join together as a community across different generations, to remember and honour those who served to defeat the Nazis and defend our freedoms against........
