Classic detective series with 'superior story' being rebooted by ITV after 19 years

An iconic detective series from the 90s and 2000s is being brought back to TV in a new "fresh and contemporary reimagining".

Crime drama series Dalziel and Pascoe aired on the BBC from 1996 to 2007, starring Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan as Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel and Detective Inspector Peter Pascoe.

It was axed in 2008 after 12 series, mainly due to a fall in viewing figures, but is now being recommissioned by ITV for a reboot.

Based on the books of the same name by Reginald Hill, the series is mostly set in the fictional town of Wetherton in Yorkshire.

It is centred on the relationship between seasoned detective Dalziel and the newly qualified, by-the-book DS Pascoe.

Despite their clashing methods, the pair work together to form a formidable partnership that is underscored by humour, heart and humanity.
