'They just appeared overnight': Teslas clog Calif. neighborhood, locals say
Parking throughout Los Angeles County feels anarchic even on an average day, as millions of residents jostle for limited space while trying to decipher often nonsensical signs. But lately, some residents in the Long Beach area say they’ve been competing with something else taking up precious parking space in their neighborhoods: an overflow of Teslas.
In early July, people living in Signal Hill began noticing fleets of Teslas — each of them bearing temporary license plates — taking up valuable parking spots on their streets. “It seemed like they just appeared overnight,” says Bella M., a resident of the area who preferred not to share her last name.
While she says the number of parked cars fluctuates regularly, Bella once “probably counted 24 total Teslas with paper plates scattered throughout the neighborhood” in a single day. Earlier this week, SFGATE saw at least five Teslas with paper plates parked in a two-block radius of Signal Hill. The Teslas mostly appear to be older Model Y’s, although some are newer.
