A handful of California pizzerias, including two Bay Area restaurants, are among the best in the U.S., according to 50 Top Pizza.

On Tuesday, 50 Top Pizza, an Italy-based ranking guide, released its annual list of U.S. winners. The majority of its California winners were Southern California-based restaurants. San Francisco fixture Tony’s Pizza Napoletana (No. 3) and Berkeley’s popular Rose Pizzeria (No. 50) were the only Bay Area winners in the national ranking list.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana was recognized for its wide range of pizza styles that includes classic Neapolitan, New Haven and New York. The organization called chef-owner Tony Gemignani a “prodigy of American artisanal pizza.” Tony’s, which has been featured in the annual ranking since 2021, claimed the No. 2 spot in the U.S. and the No. 6 spot in the world last year.
