San Francisco firefighters use a rope system to rescue two people stranded by the rising tide on the cliff’s edge at Battery Cranston in San Francisco, on Sept. 9, 2026.

A couple became stranded at Battery Cranston in the Presidio on Wednesday evening after the high tide came in, cutting off the pair’s exit route, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. 

SFFD Capt. Mariano Elias told SFGATE that the pair had partially walked up the cliff from the beach to watch the sun set.
