GARDEN CLIPPINGS: Controlling Japanese beetles
Like clockwork. On July 12, the Japanese beetles returned for their annual feast.
And like clockwork again, they will disappear on Aug. 12, give or take a day or two.
Japanese Beetles are now familiar to all of us. For the first time ever, my backyard has been invaded. I have a young tulip tree in my back forty that has been eaten alive, while the tulip tree next to it has, so far, been unscathed.
Japanese beetles are easy to identify. Smaller than most beetles, and about twice the size of a housefly, Japanese Beetles have a familiar metallic green body with a reddish-brown wing covering.
