Canada is threatening to sue Cleveland-Cliffs over Stelco layoffs tied to Trump tariffs

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney threatened legal action against Cleveland-Cliffs, the Ohio-based owner of Canadian steelmaker Stelco, on Tuesday after the company announced layoffs it attributed in part to U.S. tariffs on steel, according to Reuters.

Carney said the federal government intended to pursue Cleveland-Cliffs "to the fullest extent of the law," pointing to employment commitments the company took on as a condition of its C$3.4 billion ($2.4 billion) acquisition of Stelco in 2024. The terms of........
