Challenging Perfectionism by Practicing Self-Compassion
It's difficult to be around someone who tends to whine.
Whining reflects self-pity or believing your life has never been happy—and never will be. Yet the irony is, your self-pity can easily prevent you from taking responsibility for your own life or realizing what you're capable of doing.
And that's moving on.
There have been assertions lately that even therapy itself can focus far too much on past hurt. If that's what's happening, it can stand in the way of you figuring out how you can stop defining yourself by that past.
There's a huge difference between self-pity and self-compassion. If clinically depressed, you're dealing with an unwanted and unchosen barrage of negative, destructive thoughts and emotions. One of those can be self-pity. When you're drowning in those thoughts and emotions, it's very hard to be engaged with others or interested in anything outside of your own head.
What are the differences?
It's healthy........
