Polygon covered a lot of end-of-year, best-of-the-year games stuff in 2024. We celebrated one of the most successful breakout indies in years (Balatro) and watched a horde of dedicated fans muster up a bunch of fan-voted wins for a critically divisive game (Black Myth: Wukong). But we also couldn’t ignore the hundreds, if not thousands, of incredible video games that just didn’t have the following, marketing budget, or intention to break into the mainstream — more video games were made in 2024 than ever before.
