The story goes that a Texan who helped design Fort Pepperrell, the U.S. military base on that site which operated from 1941 to 1961, came up with the Stetson design as a nod to his own roots.

It is a tangible reminder of the close bonds Newfoundland and Labrador once shared with the United States — bonds that have been weakened by the actions and attitudes of the current president.
