Conducting good research before beginning a movie production, writing a novel or building a public monument is key to their success. Without that groundwork, the artistic piece risks portraying a story that doesn’t feel authentic. It may flop – or worse yet – its message may not reach to those who could most benefit from it.

Cancer research is no different. If therapies, studies, and public outreach activities are developed without including the lived experience of those affected, great medical achievements may not work as they intend to.
