CHEERS AND JEERS: Jeers to drivers who don't secure their loads

Jeers to drivers who don’t secure their loads when travelling. Recently, Alyssa Wright was travelling to Charlottetown from Kinkora when a screwdriver flew off a truck and impaled her windshield. Photos of the incident clearly show how dangerous the situation was with the screwdriver still embedded in the fractured glass. The driver of the other vehicle didn’t stop and might not have even been aware of what happened. That doesn’t make the situation any less dangerous. Many drivers in P.E.I. have witnessed loose items flying off the back of a truck and experienced firsthand the shock and fear those hazards cause. As Wright said, the outcome could have been very different if someone else had been driving or the screwdriver had struck a different kind of vehicle. Drivers in P.E.I. already face enough potential hazards on the road. Loose projectiles are completely avoidable and don’t need to be added to the list.
