CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to P.E.I. residents who showed up to help stranded balloon crew

Cheers to the Islanders who arrived to help three people whose hydrogen balloon made an emergency landing in a swamp near Cardigan recently. The three crew members were OK, but the state of their balloon was a different matter. The crew had to abandon its planned trans-Atlantic trip after a gas leak. While the trip wasn’t a success, the crew did get to experience Island generosity as a group of residents worked with them to haul the damaged balloon out of the woods. It appears to have been no small feat with one volunteer saying it took about four hours to get the balloon to the main road near the landing site.
