CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to P.E.I. health town halls and to Cory Deagle for facing anxious Islanders
Cheers to P.E.I. MLAs who have organized recent town halls on the topic of health care in the province. Cheers as well to Cory Deagle for taking the hot seat at the Liberal meeting to answer questions from the floor from Islanders anxious about recent physician resignations and long wait times. Liberal MLA Gord McNeilly hosted the March 16 event with party leader Robert Mitchell at Grace Baptist Church in Charlottetown. They invited the premier, who was out of the country, and Deagle, who was acting health minister after Mark McLane’s leave for health reasons. PC MLA Tyler DesRoches also arranged a town hall for Summerside that was postponed due to weather then cancelled after the death of McLane. Deagle couldn’t have known his party colleague would be forced to cancel when he accepted the Liberals’ invitation, so it is to his credit he faced an audience organized by Opposition members and appeared to take their concerns seriously.
