CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to P.E.I. government for piloting rideshare for rural Islanders
Cheers to the Prince Edward Island government for launching a pilot rideshare service in rural P.E.I. The service will be delivered by the company Kari and supported by a fund through the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission. Beginning in June and running for six months, the program will offer rides to residents in North Rustico, Richmond, Souris, O’Leary and Tignish during evenings and weekends “with service hours varying based on local needs.” Users will have to pay regular fare for their drives, but no option like this currently exists in these communities, so there is reason to hope people will see the benefits to this program and make a dent in the Island’s appalling impaired driving stats.
