Feeling more helpful about putting roofs over more heads

Last month, driving by the latest eviction of an encampment, my heart ached for the people hauling their belongings away from the rail line. One man carried a pot of flowers he had clearly coveted, somehow nursing life out of a dark time in his life.

Part of me wanted to pull over to help. But I had someone waiting for me and no idea how long it would take to support even one of these individuals.

That sense of helplessness causes most people to turn away. Get on with their day. Forget about the suffering we don’t know how to heal.

However, I began to feel more hopeful after spending an evening in a room packed with people gathered to learn from those who have a plan. One City Peterborough hosted the session on Tuesday evening to outline its housing strategy.
