The Norwood Lions Club is an incredible force in our community
The Norwood Lions Club has proven time and time again it is one incredible force for community betterment in Asphodel Norwood.
This seemingly tireless group has provided bodies and financial support to hundreds of worthy projects within the community and beyond over the last seven-plus decades.
The club continued this mandate at its latest dinner meeting held last Thursday, May 1 at Norwood Town Hall. Following a fine repast (which in true enterprising form, several members organized and prepared the meal) the group made two cheque presentations from the proceeds of its popular breakfast fundraisers.
Asphodel-Norwood Fire Chief Darryl Payne attended the meeting and accepted a cheque for $7,000 to go toward the purchase of bunker gear to protect members of our amazing volunteer firefighters. In his short address the fire chief gave a brief rundown of the various costs of the equipment and gear that must be provided under the current regulations.
He praised the club stating how incredibly important it is and how fortunate they are to have a group like the Norwood Lions Club supporting their local volunteer firefighters.
The second donation was $2,000 to the Lions of Canada fund. This donation helps the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) to fund grants to very worthwhile causes within Canada. Accepting the donation was local LCIF member, Lion Don Radnor from the........
