Claude Lemieux’s passion, presence and playoff heroics won’t be forgotten
On May 28, Claude Lemieux sadly passed away at age 60.
The Buckingham, Quebec-born right winger was a ferocious competitor, a relentless agitator, and a clutch performer.
He was the classic example of the player everyone wanted on their team, and the player everyone absolutely despised playing against. The term “super pest” best described the physically imposing six foot one, 226 pounder.
Lemieux was selected in round two of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He suited up in 1,215 NHL regular season games, notching 379 goals, and 786 points. He represented the Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars, and the San Jose Sharks.
While Lemieux was a productive player in the regular season, he had a special ability to elevate his game in the NHL’s post-season. He notched 80 goals, 158 points, and a whopping 529 penalty........
