THIS timeless axiom perfectly defines Pakistan’s current crossroads with Afghanistan.

For decades Pakistan’s state policy has exemplified strategic patience rooted in shared faith, geography and a sincere hope for reciprocal brotherhood. We have absorbed ingratitude, tolerated hostile rhetoric and endured the bleeding wound of cross-border terrorism while extending dialogue and support. Yet patience is not infinite; its boundaries are drawn by the scale of provocation. The events of October 11–12, 2025, represent that final and unforgivable provocation—an episode that exposes a calculated conspiracy and marks the end of an era of restraint.

Pakistan has consistently extended a hand of friendship and solidarity to Afghanistan, upholding the bonds of religion, history and neighbourly goodwill. This was the essence of our patience and the moral foundation of our regional approach. Unfortunately, this goodwill has been met not with gratitude or cooperation but with persistent hostility.
