Undercover police operation smashes gang hiding drugs in cat litter in shipping units

Their drugs ring was smashed when police swooped on the ringleader and one of his lieutenants restocking at one of the sites, following a months-long undercover operation.

Norwich Crown Court heard more than 3kg of cocaine and 25kg of ketamine - with a total street value of £722,620 - were discovered, much of it hidden in the shipping containers disguised as cat litter.

Five members of the gang were sentenced to a total of 23 years in jail for their roles in supplying drugs across Norfolk and Suffolk between May 2023 and March 2025, when two of them were caught "red handed".

Jake Roberts, 28, who masterminded the operation, and 29-year-old Zac Sillis, one of his deputies, were arrested on March 18 at the Easystore 24/7 self storage unit on Diamond Road, near the airport, while resupplying their stock.

The pair were sentenced on Friday, alongside Nicholas Winter, 28, Oliver Evans, 27, and Nicola Ireland, 52.
