Claire Bridger attacked Keith Bridger, with whom she had been in a relationship for almost 40 years, in the driveway of his new home.

He received life-threatening injuries but was helped by neighbours, one of whom was a doctor, until the emergency services arrived.

The 64-year-old attacked her husband after he had their two pet dachshunds put down following the break-up of their relationship.

The mother-of-two appeared at Norwich Crown Court for sentencing after previously admitting wounding Mr Bridger with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

Bridger, who wore a black top and wept in the dock during much of the hearing, was jailed for three years and made the subject of a restraining order.

She was banned from contacting Mr Bridger directly or indirectly, save through solicitors, for six years.
