Nicolae Brica was almost twice the legal limit for driving when his Renault Megane struck 28-year-old Thomas Plane on Barrack Street in the early hours of December 24 last year.

Brica was almost twice the legal drink-drive limit when he caused the death, by careless driving, of Thomas as well as serious injury to his brother, James.

Thomas sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, while James was also hit after the Megane mounted the pavement.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
