REVEALED: Norfolk areas where most people get benefits for mental health conditions

Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft have the highest number of people receiving Personal Independence Payments (PIPs) for these conditions in the region, according to the Department for Work and Pensions.

The figures come as the Labour government is pushing for major reforms to the welfare system amid spiralling numbers of people claiming benefits for mental health illnesses.

According to the data, of the 58,445 working-age adults (aged 16 - 64) in the constituency of Great Yarmouth, 2.6pc of the population receive mental health PIP benefits.

The highest number of PIP recipients for any condition are in the town's Central and Northgate ward and Nelson - two of the most deprived areas in the country - where about one in five people claim PIPs.

In Lowestoft, 2.6pc of its 53,577 working-age adults also receive mental health PIPs.
