Well-known owner of newsagents and life-long Canaries fan dies aged 84
From a small Sunday paper round to a major business at the beating heart of the city, Norwich stalwart John Howell built an empire from newspapers.
As a team, John and his wife Sylvia ran one of the most successful newsagents in Norwich out of a small shop on Magdalen Road- which they built from virtually nothing.
In the 1970s, John had almost 40 paperboys and girls delivering around 1,400 copies of the Eastern Evening News - as the Norwich Evening News was then called - six days a week in a nearly non-stop operation.
