Neighbours threaten legal action in backlash over housing bid

Plans to transform the site at Berners Close in Mile Cross into two single bedroom flats have been met with objections from locals who worry the development would encroach on their privacy.

The scheme was put forward by Orwell Housing Association in March and is one of a series of applications for sites owned by Norwich City Council to be developed into affordable housing.

One neighbour said: "The planning process for this development is not right for this location, it's overlooking to the neighbouring property below and will be an invasion of privacy.

"Bungalows were built at this address so they don't overlook neighbouring properties.

"Along with all our neighbours on Fenn Crescent we strongly oppose to these plans and would seek legal action if required."

Others fear the scheme could make the road unsafe.

"If new buildings were to be put here, more consideration would need to be made in regard to parking as the number of vehicles parked here for residential purposes not including visitors make it difficult to turn around," another added.

"If the flats are built here, on top of the privacy concerns for neighbouring properties, there's the concern that it would force vehicles to reverse to the T-junction with poor visibility due to vehicles parked on the corners creating more incidents."

It is believed the site was previously taken up by three bungalows which were built in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

At some point the three homes were demolished and turned into a car park.
