The object, believed to be an unexploded device, was discovered roughly halfway down Allen's Lane in Sprowston.

A witness who claims they saw the explosive said it appeared to be two foot six inches long with fins on it.

As events unfolded, people living within 100 metres of the site were evacuated before bomb disposal experts arrived on the scene at around 4.30pm today.
