Thousands to be disrupted by A47 closure ahead of Norwich game

The major road will be shut in both directions between Dereham and Easton from 8pm this Friday to 6am next Monday.

During this period, Church Lane South in Easton will be closed from its junction with the A47 to the Dereham Road junction.

This weekend, thousands of fans would be expected to take this route into the city for Norwich City's home game against Swansea City FC.

The official diversion route is 65 miles long, with westbound traffic being directed eastwards on the A47, joining the A11 and leaving at Thetford to join the A134 heading northwest.

Konnect Bus Service has confirmed that services 8 and 4 will not be taking this official route, which would take one hour and 38 minutes.

For service 4, buses will be diverted between the N&N Hospital and Honingham (Berrys Lane) via Barnham Broom.

As a result, all stops at Longwater Retail Park & in Easton will not be served on Sunday.

Service 8 will be diverted via Barnham Broom, and a temporary timetable will be in place with a shuttle service in operation between Dereham and Toftwood to reduce disruption.

The services will operate via North Tuddenham.

When asked about the diversion, a spokesman for First Bus Group said: "The services will operate from Dereham via Elmham and Bawdeswell along the A1067 into the city and the same in reverse.

"It will not serve Newmarket Road, Cringleford, Easton, and Hockering."

These diversions will only be in place during the road closure.

The closures are part of a major project by National Highways to turn the five-mile stretch from North Tuddenham to Easton into a dual carriageway.

Disruption is expected in several phases until 2027, when the work is set for completion.
