The cost to stay at the site’s short-stay car park for 30 minutes has increased to £6 from its previous charge of £5.

The rise led to an outpouring of anger on social media.

One Facebook user commented under a post alerting people of this: "This doesn’t happen to continental airports, but it is rip-off off Britain, and only to be expected."

Another commenter said: "They are doing their best to deter people from using the airport."
