Norfolk town compared to 'Beirut' as crime spree renews calls for CCTV

A vape shop in Attleborough was targeted moments after councillors met on Monday, 17 November, when concerns over the absence of cameras and wider security measures in the town centre dominated discussions.

A week later police were called to the same premises twice in a single day - first to reports of an attempted burglary shortly before 5am, then to an aggravated burglary at 7.50pm.

Earlier that day a Turkish barbershop was allegedly attacked with baseball bats by a group of six men.

Police believe the incidents are linked.

The flare-up of violent vandalism has fuelled anger among councillors and traders over what they see as the town’s inadequate security.

At the meeting on November 17, the introduction of street wardens and cameras were dismissed on cost grounds.
