Greens push on with wood burner curbs (despite only a third backing the move)
The party's new administration at City Hall has approved an air quality plan which includes proposals to turn the entire city into a smoke control area.
This would mean households with log burners could face £300 fines for burning the wrong fuel or letting visible smoke escape from their chimneys.
Selling or burning fuel could also attract fines of up to £1,000.
The council has already carried out a consultation on its proposals, with 55pc of respondents saying they did not support a city-wide zone.
Just 37pc backed it and 8pc said they were unsure.
Despite this, cabinet documents confirm the Greens are pressing on with the policy, stating that the matter is still under review but "the growth of small particulate emissions from wood burning is of concern".
