A bid for new flats above a recently opened shop in the heart of Norwich has been given the green light.

The plans propose dividing a two-storey apartment above the Charing Cross Convenience Store into two separate homes.

The scheme, submitted to City Hall by Visvalingam Sivakandarajah in April, has now been approved.

Mr Sivakandarajah was also behind the plans for the newly opened corner shop, which were submitted in October last year.

Ben Turner, who is also a group director at Ben Burgess, a farming machinery company, has applied to South Norfolk Council to change the use of a field in Kirstead, near Seething.

Plans involve fencing off just over an acre of what is currently used as arable farmland and building a small car park.

The facility, accessed by Seething Road, would be appointment-only and serve private clients in need of secure open space to exercise and train their dogs.

Leaders have been given the go-ahead to carry out a major expansion of their Russian Orthodox church in Norwich.

St Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Church - dedicated to a Russian prince who lived during the 1200s - will be adding a second floor to its single-storey property on Oak Street.

The church, which has approximately 60 parishioners, will also be building a domed tower as part of its plans.

Father Spasimir Ivanov, the priest of the church, says all the money needed to build the tower will come from donations.

A controversial bid to demolish a row of garages and replace them with shipping containers has been thrown out after councillors heard of blight fears.

Councillors at North Norfolk District Council have voted against the plans to tear down eight garages on Nelson Road in North Walsham and replace them with five containers at a meeting this week.

The proposal, submitted by Gavin Payne, had sparked several fears from neighbours.

5. 65-mile diversion due to A47 closure

The A47 will be shut in both directions between Dereham and Easton from 8pm on April 24 to 6am on April 27.

During this period, Church Lane South in Easton will be closed from its junction with the A47 to the Dereham Road junction.

All side road access to the A47 within the closure will also be blocked.

The closures are part of a major project by National Highways to turn the five-mile stretch from North Tuddenham to Easton into a dual carriageway.

The official diversion route is approximately 65 miles long with westbound traffic being directed eastwards on the A47, joining the A11 and leaving at Thetford to join the A134 heading northwest.

At Mundford, drivers will take the A1065 north towards Swaffham and then re-join the A47 at Swaffham heading east, with eastbound traffic doing the route backwards.
