Man, 25, dies after taking super-strength 'zombie' opioid sweeping the nation

The drug is sweeping the country and has been blamed for a string of deaths, prompting authorities in Norfolk to issue an alert.

This is the second inquest held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court in as many months where the deceased has taken the drug while unaware of its potency.

Forrest’s family attended the court, based at County Hall, on Wednesday, June 6.

A statement was read out from his father, Gary Daynes, who described his son – the youngest of three siblings – as “a typical young man of his age”.

Forrest died at his home on Higham Close on August 7 last year, just a week after his birthday.

On the day of his death, his mother had called him downstairs for dinner.

When he did not respond, his brother went to his room where he found him “unresponsive” on his bed just before 5.30pm.

Forrest's brother shouted for their mother, who began CPR – commended by the ambulance service as being “of good quality” - while 999 was called.

Both the ambulance service and the air ambulance attended but despite the best efforts of the crew, Forrest’s death was confirmed at 5.51pm.

His family told the court that they had been completely unaware of Forrest’s drug taking prior to his death.

And while a post mortem was unable to find a definitive answer, a toxicology report confirmed the cause of death as synthetic opioid toxicity.
