Tragic death of detransitioning woman who struggled after teenage trauma

Jordan Lyon, who was previously known as Chloe, had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria as well as post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions after being assaulted on a school trip as a 13-year-old.

An inquest into her death heard from her father, Martin Lyon, who said that the incident - which took place in 2014 - had signalled "the beginning of the end".

"We later found out that Jordan had been assaulted on the ferry by two boys from the same school.”

He explained that while the police initially investigated this incident, it did not lead anywhere.

Then, two years ago, police prepared to reopen the case, only to say they were unable to due to lack of “funds available”.

Mr Lyon added: “Again, Jordon felt terribly let down.

“After this school trip, Jordan’s mental state of health began to dwindle.

"She was bullied at the school because of this, and the teachers and headteachers were totally incompetent in their support.

“This ended in Jordan being sectioned for the first time, and really was the beginning of the end.”

At the time of her death, the 24-year-old was living at Oliver Court - a care home for people with mental health issues - in Great Yarmouth.
